TYLER, Texas (Sept. 14, 2018) – PatientCare Logistics Solutions, a leading provider of ground-based 911 emergency ambulance and other critical healthcare logistics services, today acquired LifeCare EMS, which serves six counties in Mississippi.
PatientCare will operate under the name LifeCare EMS in the greater Carthage, Mississippi area, which includes Leake, Winston, Newton, Scott, Noxubee and Kemper counties. Lifecare EMS will continue to provide uninterrupted 911 and non-emergency ambulance service with advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS) services.
“LifeCare EMS has provided excellent patient care to central Mississippi for more than 25 years, and it is a key reason why we were interested in acquiring the company,” said Ron Schwartz, president of PatientCare. “We plan to invest in new technology and introduce proven operations best practices, which will further benefit the local community.”
Longtime owners H.L. Goolsby and his daughter Leigh Ann Goolsby Magee will continue to serve in leadership roles for LifeCare EMS in partnership with Jerry Johnston, who will serve as the new chief operating officer. Johnston has more than 40 years of experience in emergency medical services. Johnston is a past president of the National Association of EMTs, and a past recipient of the association’s EMS Administrator of the Year award.
PatientCare plans to retain LifeCare EMS’ skilled employees who transport approximately 16,000 patients per year. In partnership with PatientCare, LifeCare EMS’ paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) will have expanded access to certifications and training, which will help them provide patients with continued high-quality care.
PatientCare will continue to operate LifeCare EMS’ fleet of ambulances, and plans to upgrade the technology that paramedics and EMTs use for patient care. Ambulances will be equipped with Mobile Data Terminals to track real-time vehicle movement and communication.
LifeCare EMS is the newest addition to PatientCare’s portfolio of exclusive, long-term contracts in a variety of settings, from Florida’s most densely populated county to a small but growing Midwest city. PatientCare operates emergency and non-emergency contracts in Florida, Texas, California, Indiana, and South Dakota, and now, in Mississippi.
“We are very excited about the acquisition of LifeCare EMS as it represents the first transaction under our new owner, Alvarez & Marsal Capital Partners, which has committed significant capital for growth,” said Herman Schwarz, chairman of PatientCare. “Our growth strategy is to secure new contracts and acquire ambulance and other healthcare logistics providers who offer high-quality services and technologies to their communities.”
